A Fall Field Trip, Part III: Interesting Things Which Are Not Plants

Sometimes, the best finds on a botanical expedition are not actually plants. Take these, for example.

The human female says these wings are from a Gulf Fritillary butterfly.  Oh, Sigyn, no!  I’m sure she’s lying.  The butterfly is not dead. You don’t see a body, do you?  No, of course not.  Butterflies are just like humans.  They like to change their wardrobe with the seasons.  I’m sure some fashionable lepidopteran shucked these off in favor of an even more beautiful set, all shiny and new for fall.

Oh ho!  Now these I like quite a lot.  They’re green!

Poke, poke, poke.  And rubbery!  This must be that green rubber tree-flappy fungi you hear so much about.  Pssst!  Hey, field-trip-guy-that-eats-everything–are these edible?  Yes?  But they taste nasty?  Super!

The human female’s next pizza is going to be a bit more colorful than usual…
